Family counselling aims to address psychological, behavioural, and emotional issues that cause family problems. The usual goals of family therapy are improving communication, solving family problems, understanding and handling special family situations, and creating a better-functioning home environment. Family members will work with their therapist to change the patterns of interaction between family members and to develop and maintain healthy relationships.
This type of therapy can help when families are feeling overwhelmed, sad and angry; when they're unsure how to move forward; or when they feel that they are repeating the same harmful behaviours over and over. Throughout sessions, the emphasis is to help everyone in the family understand and support each other and work through difficult feelings in a safe space.
Individual therapy is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a psychotherapist in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. Individual psychotherapy sessions are 50 minutes long. The frequency and duration of therapy will depend largely on your needs, treatment goals, and progress. Many concerns are readily resolved with short-term therapy, and other chronic or more complex concerns require long-term commitment before improvement is realized.

Sessions typically involve open and honest communication, guided discussions, and exercises aimed at enhancing understanding, empathy, and problem-solving skills. The therapist facilitates constructive dialogue, helping couples identify patterns of behavior, communication styles, and underlying issues contributing to conflicts or dissatisfaction. Together, couples learn effective communication techniques, conflict resolution strategies, and tools to rebuild trust and intimacy. The goal of couples therapy is to foster healthier, more fulfilling relationships by promoting mutual respect, empathy, and emotional connection.
